Thanks 404 Noir, that one was registered in 2013 by the owner, but without a photo. So this auction, which I heard of on the weekend, was the first time there was a photo associated with the chassis number. Thanks so much for your vigilance!

He has the spare wheel standing upright in the boot. I want that too! He probably had the wheel well deepened?

Yes I think so! The other alternative would be to have a modern "space saver" spare tire that would require inflation, that should fit in the standard well.

Another car was submitted on the Registry website (Peugeot 404 Serial Number Inventory) today:

4499589, Cabriolet Carburateur, 27 octobre 1966, Blanc Arosa 1132, Cuir Noir, bought by its present owner in 1977 from the owner of the Champagne house Pommery. Not used since 1990, but the owner has started restoring the car in 2014 and hopes to have it finished by the end of 2015, MORDELLES FRANCE

This old photograph is likely of the same car in the post above (4599131). The owner of 4599131 and I are pretty much convinced of it. It was on display in Nairobi in 1966 on a Marshall's (the Kenyan Peugeot importer) stand at a trade show prior to its delivery to the first owner. The plate on this car "INJ 404" is a false one, just indicating that the car has a KF2 engine.

After a dearth of additions for over a month, I have found a couple more 404Cs:

4595349, Cabriolet Injection, 14 janvier 1965, Bleu Clair Métallisé 1158, Cuir Noir 2000, Car has the post-1966 front end, probably replaced after a collision, engine from a 504 TI, but the KF2 engine is still with the car, LIGNY-LE-RIBAULT FRANCE



4596602, Carrosserie 8403(?), Cabriolet Injection, 07 juillet 1965, Bleu Ciel 1041, Cuir Noir 2000, For sale December 2015 at Karel Verhoeven as a restoration project car around 12K Euros, complete but needs a lot of work, HAAREN PAYS BAS

(you will notice that the total has not increased despite the addition of two more cars. This is because I discovered when doing some quality control a month ago that two records were duplicated in the database. The reason for the duplication is that there were 21 cars in the Registry that were identified by their Carrosserie Peugeot number only. These two were later found to be in the main database of a total of 1966 cars that are identified by serial number. So they were removed and the two new ones make up for them, but the total remains at 1987. Of which 19 are registered by Carrosserie Peugeot number only...)

Through some fancy maneuvers online and using some hunches based upon the clustering of 404C VINs sent to the USA, I have managed to find 4 more Cabriolets. Thanks to Jeff Ray for this:
